Pilates for men - really?!!

Pilates is fast becoming acknowledged as a great form of exercise for athletes in all disciplines

Pilates can help to compliment an athlete's routine training, making them stronger, more flexible, faster to recover and less likely to injure!

And that goes for MEN too !!

Pilates is an integral part of training for several professional sporting associations including:

  • Rugby teams - Union & League - Home & Countries

  • Olympic Team GB – Rowing, Swimming, Gymnastics, etc

  • England Cricket - County & Country

  • Premiership, Championship and League Football Clubs

According to Dr Tom Crisp, a Sports and Orthopaedic Consultant specialist: 

“The best way for men to improve posture and develop muscle strength is to attack the body's core muscles - those around the trunk area. Exercises that will have the most positive effect without strain are Pilates, Yoga and Swiss ball exercises. The core muscles that fitness fanatics keep talking about act like a corset around your trunk, take pressure off your back and pull all the other abdominal muscles into the right place."

Body 2 Fit provide Pilates sessions to men in mixed and unisex classes, in groups, team and/or individual basis and can tailor tuition to the specific needs of the client.

Studio One, at Body 2 Fit's Wynyard Clinic, is home to the only FULLY equipped Pilates equipment studio in the North East.

We are excited to give our current and new clients the opportunity to enjoy the use of the equipment in Studio One at their own leisure, in conjunction with their current Pilates classes and / or 1-2-1 sessions.

Each client will be offered individual 1-2-1 sessions to create a personalised programme which they can use in Studio One at a time to suit their diary. There are also a range of package options available to ensure there is something to suit all needs and budgets!

A UK-wide CSP survey showed that 32% of people who have desk based work experience physical pain during working hours at least once a week. A further 65% reported back pain as the most common problem. Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) such as back pain are one of the biggest causes of sickness absence on any given day and are estimated to cost society and employers around £7.4 billion a year!

With more and more of us having the option to work from home it's imperative to have the correct seating arrangement to reduce the risk of back pain and other associated aches and pains.
